چکیده

Abstract A total of 3,888 pigs (337×1050, PIC, Hendersonville, TN; 6.0 kg at weaning) were used in a 42-d study to determine the influence Se source on nursery pig selenium status and growth performance. At placement, pens weighed allotted 1 3 dietary treatments randomized complete block design with blocking structure including sow farm origin, date entry, average pen BW. 144 72 double-sided 5-hole stainless steel, fence-line feeders, feeder serving as experimental unit. For each feeder, contained 27 gilts other barrows. There 24 replicates per treatment. Diets fed phases, all 0.3 ppm added Se. common phase diet from sodium selenite was pelleted form for 7 d prior initiation treatment diets. Three sources [sodium selenite; yeast; hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet)] formulate meal 2 (d 21) 21 42). During period, ADFI tended (P < 0.10) be different (107, 103, 102 g/d) selenite, yeast, OH-SeMet, respectively. From 42 (treatment period), OH-SeMet have decreased ADG had increased 0.05) serum, liver, muscle concentration compared treatments. no difference > antioxidant measured by serum GSH-Px or TBARS. In summary, greater bioavailability indicated tissue concentration; however, similar between reduce performance selenite.

Tissue selenium and serum tocopherol concentrations in selenium-vitamin E deficient pigs fed peas (Pisum sativum).

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of feeding growing pigs a diet low in selenium (Se) and vitamin E (E) with and without supplementation of various levels of Se and/or E on tissue Se and serum tocopherol concentrations. Nine of 10 pigs fed the unsupplemented cull pea diet had lesions attributed to a Se-E deficiency and eight of these pigs died during the 135-day experiment. No de...

Serum selenium concentrations in rheumatoid arthritis.

Selenium is a trace element and an essential part of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which protects cells from oxidative damage. Selenium has been shown to have antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immune altering effects. Serum selenium concentrations in 101 patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis were found to be significantly lower than those in 29 normal, healthy ...

Effect of short-term zinc supplementation on zinc and selenium tissue distribution and serum antioxidant enzymes.

BACKGROUND A significant association between Zn and Se homeostasis exists. At the same time, data on the influence of zinc supplementation on selenium distribution in organs and tissues seem to be absent. Therefore, the primary objective of the current study is to investigate the influence of zinc asparaginate supplementation on zinc and selenium distribution and serum superoxide dismutase (SOD...

Comparison of Different selenium Sources on Performance, Serum Attributes and Cellular Immunity in Broiler Chickens

The effects of organic and inorganic sources and concentration (0 and 0.3 mg per kg of diet) of Selenium (Se) on growth performance, blood biochemical and immune system were evaluated in broiler chickens. Chickens were fed corn-soy-based diets formulated to 8 dietary treatments containing no added Se (negative control), negative control plus yeast (positive control), and 6 diets had 0.3 mg/kg o...

Pre and post chemotherapy evaluation of breast cancer patients: Biochemical approach of serum selenium and antioxidant enzymes

Backgrounds: Chemotherapy for treatment of breast cancer uses some drugs to target and destroy the cancer cells. However, most of antineoplastic treatments are non-specific and the innate cells will be damaged. In this study, the effect of Adriamycin/Cytoxan (AC) chemotherapy on status of antioxidant enzymes and Se levels in breast cancer patients was evaluated. Methods: A prospective study, i...
